Our Day of Culture...

Our local FCC group has an awesome new chairperson for the Little Tigers group (kids 6 and under). Makes me kinda sad that Molly will age out of this program in October.

A month or so ago, the Little Tigers group went to a "Peanut Butter and Jam Session"...a musical presentation targeted to young ones. It was in our old neighborhood, so I told Carson and Molly I would show them where we used to live after we heard the concert.

They didn't seem particularly enthused about the musical offerings but went along begrudgingly. There were three professional musicians and three youth musicians (who were as good, if not better, than the professionals!). Molly loved this girl...
...who has been playing violin since she was four years old. (See Molly, right in front of her, practically crawling up her legs to see how she was playing that thing?)
Of course, it didn't hurt Molly's opinion that the girl is Chinese! There were two brothers there who played piano...
...and both started when they were two years old! WHAT?! Who sees that kind of talent in a two-year-old?! The picture above was of the younger brother, who is 15 now...
...and this is the older, 17-year-old brother. And they were pretty amazing on the piano!

The best part of this concert presentation was that the kids got to touch the instruments after the show and talk to the musicians...
...and made a few friends in the process! Since this event was at a Center for the Blind, we were lucky enough that they had an art exhibit open in a building across the parking lot. The best part? The kids were ENCOURAGED to touch the art pieces...
...which were all made by visually impaired artists!! Coolest art exhibit I've ever seen!

So, the kids heard fabulous classical music played by amazingly talented teens and adults, got to touch the instruments, and even saw (and touched) an art exhibit. Know what their favorite part of the day was?
Driving past the house we lived in when Meggie was a baby! So much for our day of culture...

  2. I think that the girl playing the violin used to go to the same school as my older daughter a few years ago. Is her name Jackie? She used to play the violin at the school's Christmas and Spring Musicals. She is very good! Kim
